What to do after a car accident
If you were involved in a car crash, our auto accident attorneys recommend that you:
-
01 Call 911
Assuming your injuries don't warrant a ride to the hospital, you should call the police at the scene of the accident. When the police arrive, they'll file an accident report that will contain valuable information, including who the police think caused the accident and if any tickets were issued.
-
02 Obtain the Other Driver's Information
If able, you should write down the other driver’s name, insurance provider, insurance policy number, their car's make and model, and their license plate number. You'll need this information to file your claim. If you were too hurt at the time of the wreck or didn't manage to get all this information for any reason, that's okay. It is often in the police report, and if not, we can help locate it.
-
03 Take Pictures of the Crash Scene and Your Injuries
As car accident lawyers, we can't tell you how valuable pictures are, especially if you think the other driver is at-fault. If the other driver caused the accident, we’re going to have to prove it during the claims process. Pictures are the best way to do this - they provide irrefutable evidence to support your case. Use the camera on your phone to take pictures of the crashed vehicles, the surrounding scene, skid marks on the road, shots of your injuries, etc. The more pictures the better.
-
04 Seek Medical Attention Right Away
If you’re hurt in an accident, you need to seek quick medical treatment. Not only is this important for your recovery, but the longer you delay treatment, the less likely insurance companies will agree to cover the cost of your injuries. If you don't go directly to a doctor, it's kind of like saying "I'm not that hurt," and insurers will use it against you.
-
05 Call Your Own Insurance Company
In most cases, you are contractually obliged to make your own insurance company aware whenever you are involved in a traffic accident, be it a mild fender bender or more serious collision. This holds true even if the wreck wasn't your fault.
-
06 Call an Experienced Lawyer
If you believe the other driver was at fault for the crash and your resulting car accident injuries, do not hesitate to contact us. Anderson Injury Lawyers is a Fort Worth personal injury law firm and here to help you pursue full and fair compensation for your injuries.

Fatal Car Accident Claims
When families come to us after losing a loved one in an accident, we know that they’re going through one of the hardest, lowest points in their lives. Fatal accidents are tragic, and we take our responsibility to survivors seriously.
When you contact Anderson Injury Lawyers about a loved one who was lost in a car wreck, it’s our duty to provide support, guidance and reassurance as we pursue a wrongful death claim against the negligent party. Through a wrongful death lawsuit, surviving family members can recover:
- Medical costs incurred before your loved one’s passing
- Funeral and burial expenses
- Loss of financial support
- Loss of care, support, and services
- Loss of love, society, and companionship
- Mental anguish
We encourage you to contact us in order to discuss the steps our car accident lawyers will take to help you and your family.
Car Accident Statute of Limitations
If you've been hurt in an accident in Fort Worth, you have two years from the date of the accident to file a lawsuit. This is called the statute of limitations. If you’ve been in an accident, it’s important that you contact our car accident attorneys quickly so that we can begin building your case and ensure no evidence is lost. However, if your statute date is approaching and you have not yet contacted an accident lawyer, there are still ways we can help you, and we encourage you to call us as soon as possible.
According to Texas law, injury victims have a two-year deadline from the date of the accident to file a claim. If you allow that deadline to pass and you haven't yet taken action, it's too late: you will be barred from submitting a claim to the insurance company, and you will be unable to recover compensation for your medical bills, damages, and so on.
Please note that contacting the insurance company is not enough. You must actually file a lawsuit at the courthouse. There may be times when you’re getting close to the statute date but you haven’t yet reached the point in the process when you’d normally file a lawsuit. If this happens, your car accident attorney can file a lawsuit to ‘save’ the statute; i.e. to prevent the statute from running out in the event that the case cannot be resolved short of a lawsuit.
